Australians & Hollywood

Australians & Hollywood Education Programs

Continuing throughout 2023

Australians & Hollywood is a Canberra-exclusive exhibition celebrating iconic moments in contemporary Australian film and the people and stories that brought them to life. This blockbuster exhibition by the NFSA features beloved cinema moments, rare behind-the-scenes footage and costumes and props from the NFSA collection on display for the first time.

This exhibition will be continuing on display throughout 2023.

To complement our first original exhibition in two decades, we are offering school groups the opportunity to engage firsthand with the exhibition and have developed an educational resource for teachers.

EXHIBITION VIEWING AND ACTIVITY

Students undertake a self-paced activity where they delve into the exhibit, discovering the contributions Australian’s have made to some of the most prominent films of our time.

The Australians & Hollywood exhibition covers a wide range of content including: film excerpts, interviews, behind-the-scenes images and audiovisual displays, on-set photography, excerpts from rushes and rehearsal footage, concept art, character and costume designs. The exhibition includes large-scale projections (with and without sound), touchscreens, costumes, film props and images.

The content has been selected with a broad, general public audience in mind, however the films referenced in the exhibition do range from G classification right through to R. Accordingly, the imagery shown varies and includes vehicle stunts, stunt fighting, the occasional image of a gun, a couple of swear words, smoking and some very 70s sunburn. Please also be aware that there is one touch screen showing concept art that contains a warning related to explicit imagery. Talk to our staff upon arrival about your group's specific needs.
