Access for exhibitors and venues

The National Film and Sound Archive facilitates the public screening and exhibition of our collection. We partner with cinemas, galleries and festivals to bring Australia’s audiovisual history to theatrical screenings and curated public programs.

This page outlines how we work with professional clients – including fees, access options and loan requirements.

Is this service for you?

This service is specifically designed for professional and institutional presenters providing access to public audiences.

This includes:

  • Cinemas and independent theatres – for theatrical runs or special screenings
  • Film festivals and cultural presenters – for curated retrospectives or festival programs
  • GLAM Institutions – galleries, libraries, archives and museums hosting public-facing exhibitions

Please note: This service is not intended for non-theatrical screenings by films societies and community groups. If you are interested in non-theatrical screenings please see the information on our conditions of use page or contact [email protected].

What we offer

The collection includes a wide range of audiovisual formats, including:

  • digital screening formats
  • film formats, including 16mm and 35mm (subject to availability and condition)

Format availability depends on preservation requirements and venue capabilities. We can advise on what formats are suitable for specific screening or exhibition contexts. Access arrangements for GLAM institutions are tailored to exhibition needs and assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Please note: All loans are subject to rights clearances and the physical condition of the material. Our team provides expert guidance on technical formats (from 35mm to digital) and rights considerations to ensure your presentation meets professional standards.
