This gets our institutions back to where they should be – where the Government delivers strong core funding and philanthropists take them to the next level.Arts Minister the Hon Tony Burke announcing a funding uplift for National Cultural Institutions, 5 April 2023
Thanks in no small part to the donations we receive from private supporters, NFSA is transforming into an innovative institution focused on collecting and preserving Australia’s history in audiovisual forms.
The nation's great moments captured in news broadcasts and documentary films.
And our private moments, captured in home movies and TikToks.
The collection provides knowledge for academic research and memories for reflection and joy.
Right now, we are stepping up our efforts to open up access to the collection for all Australians no matter where they live.
The more we can continue to digitise old formats like tape and celluloid, the more these old recorded memories become shareable on this website, YouTube and social platforms: wherever you enjoy watching and listening to your favourite media.
Your financial support will make a difference in making this happen – and it also provides our team with the encouragement that fuels our work.
Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
We can do more with more! Some specific initiatives that your donation will support:
- Restoring classic Australian films, giving them a second life looking and sounding as good their premiere screenings. (Each title restored costs around $100,000 so support is always appreciated).
- Digitisation of fragile old media types to preserve them for future generations
- Delivery of critical media literacy and online safety programs for school age learners
- Research into the collection’s extensive First Nations artefacts, helping us to reconnect old recordings of language and ritual to their traditional communities
