The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia is a Statutory Authority established by the National Film and Sound Archive Act 2008 and operates as a National Collecting Institution within the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

The National Film and Sound Archive is governed by the NFSA Board, who are appointed by the Minister for the Arts, and managed by an Executive Team.
