NFSA Player: The Stories Archives Tell

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this page may contain images and voices of deceased people.

NFSA Player Launches with The Buwindja Collection

There’s now a new way to access titles from the National Film and Sound Archive’s audiovisual collection. NFSA Player gives audiences across Australia the ability to stream selected feature films, TV series, documentaries, performance, animation and more, in full and on demand across your devices.

NFSA Player is proud to launch with the Buwindja Collection – a selection of 17 titles curated to reflect the 2023 NAIDOC Week theme 'For Our Elders'.

Buwindja (‘Remember’ in the Dharawal language) continues the traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytelling, and is a snapshot of the history of Indigenous voice through screen.

These compelling stories – more than 24 hours of watch time – can be seen in feature films, documentaries, TV series, song, dance, animation and more.

Don’t miss Warwick Thornton’s award-winning Samson and Delilah, Rachel Perkins’ extraordinary film Mabo, Stephen Page's dance film Spear, drama series The Gods of Wheat Street, Essie Coffey’s landmark documentary My Survival as an Aboriginal, the rock'n’roll dramatised documentary Wrong Side of the Road, biographical features about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders such as Noel Tovey and Ruby Langford Ginibi, and much more:

Inspiring Audiences

The Buwindja Collection was curated by Gillian Moody. Gillian, a Wodi Wodi woman, is an award-winning filmmaker and the NFSA’s Senior Manager, Indigenous Connections.

Buwindja represents an opportunity for Australians to reflect on the part they play in ensuring that the voice that our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders have fought for in the past and present continues to be heard’, says Gillian.

‘I curated it with the hope of inspiring audiences to reflect, imagine and act when they listen to and watch these stories.’

You can rent titles in the Buwindja Collection individually ($4.99), or as a complete collection ($19.99) and watch as many times as you like over 30 days. NFSA Player does not require a subscription. In full, on demand and ad free – only on NFSA Player

NFSA Player also has a selection of free content that you can watch without payment. For help with how to view, see our FAQs.
