Nominations for Sounds of Australia 2018 close 16 September
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is asking the public their help to decide which iconic recordings should join our prestigious Sounds of Australia registry this year.
These are the ultimate songs, radio programs, jingles, etc. which left an indelible impact on Australian culture and history, and you can have your say in this year’s selection.
From AC/DC to Waltzing Matilda, Sounds of Australia already includes 125 recordings; songs, inspiring speeches, sounds of nature, radio broadcasts, Indigenous languages, and more. The list is as varied as Australian creativity! You can see the full list here.
Nominations for 2018 close on 16 September. You can nominate your favourites (as many as you want), as long as they're Australian, and more than 10 years old.
We want all generations to participate, whether you’re a baby boomer or a millennial. Any recordings from 1896 up to 2008 can be nominated.
This is the first time that recordings from 2008 are eligible; check out ARIA’s top 50 Australian singles including Gabriella Cilmi’s Sweet About Me and The Veronicas’ Untouched.
Once nominations close the NFSA will create a shortlist based on the public’s suggestions, and a panel of industry experts will vote for the top 10. This year’s Sounds of Australia will be announced on 30 October.
To make your nomination, just go to the NFSA website (https://www.nfsa.gov.au/nominate-sound), and fill out the form. It’s that simple!
