When you reach for a jar of Vegemite, does it put a rose in your cheeks?
This ad from 1954 leans hard on the cutie-pie factor, with angelic girls’ voices singing the signature 'Happy little Vegemites' jingle and two moppets tucking in to their afternoon yeast paste. But it also takes a scientific angle, wooing adults with promises of firm body tissues (demonstrated by a man) and clear skin (demonstrated by a woman). Why not cover all bases?
Vegemite may be an acquired taste, but persuasive advertising like this ensured that many Australians acquired it.
