Using two or more channels to create a spatial effect. This is sound recording and reproduction by more than one (mono) channel. In home music reproduction, stereo came to mean two channels (left and right), while in the film industry, stereo is understood to include surround and centre channels in addition to left and right. To avoid confusion, multi channel stereo is often referred to as ‘surround sound’.
