The location of an image, or part of an image, on the film so that it aligns exactly with other similar components.
The technicolour three strip process required that all three colour separation negatives were in perfect registration (alignment) so that when they were printed onto the final print there was no colour fringe due to one or two of the layers being slightly misaligned.
