Used technically, this term usually applies to sound or image interference or unwanted variations in a signal, introduced by an image or sound recording or reproduction system.
Noise degrades the quality of the reproduced image or sound. In digital or video images, noise may result in a coarse or grainy structure to the image: in sound, it may produce distorted sounds or hiss, rumble etc.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
