Broadcast denotes television and radio, irrespective of whether transmission is by air or by cable. Both media have in common the capability of live immediacy – for example, in news, current affairs, phone-in or interview programmes – which is not, and cannot, be characteristic of studied creations like pop music recordings, feature films or documentary programmes.
