What does it take to preserve Australia’s audiovisual (AV) history? At the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), it’s our job to collect, preserve, and share the nation’s AV culture – but how does that happen?
In this 20-minute digital excursion, students will go behind the scenes of Australia’s national AV archive to explore how media is collected, preserved and made accessible for future generations. Following the journey of material from Young Talent Time, students will gain insight into the unexpected and essential work of the NFSA – from archival preservation to storytelling and digital access.
Along the way, they’ll discover real items from the collection and meet the passionate professionals whose diverse careers power the archive. Students will be encouraged to think critically about Australia’s past, the role of AV media in shaping national identity and the enduring power of story.
Suitable for students across Years 3-10.
