A mix of thought-provoking, creatively artistic and – in one exceptional case, hilariously bad – films await you at Arc Cinema this month!

June is the perfect month to drop on by to Arc Cinema. As well as our great roster of exciting films, this month we’re hosting 3 special guests.

Our Aussie Indies feature this month is Little Tornadoes (2021) and we’ll be joined afterwards by director Aaron Wilson for a Q&A. Director Jennifer Peedom will join us on the big screen via Zoom for a Q&A session about her acclaimed documentary River (2021). Finally, in association with the ANU’s ‘Meet the Author’ series, legendary playwright and screenwriter David Williamson will be discussing his memoir Home Truths with Alex Sloan.

The fun continues with an Arc Out Loud screening of Troll 2 (1990). Often listed as one of the worst movies of all time, Troll 2 is the perfect film for a Bad Movie Bingo night. Bring your friends and see if you can be the first to cross off all the terrifically terrible tropes and win some prizes.

June also sees the start of a new season of films showcasing the work of renowned documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman. In partnership with the Sydney Film Festival and Australian Centre of the Moving Image, the NFSA will be presenting 10 films by Wiseman which highlight his unique, immersive approach to ‘reality fictions’. Titicut Follies and Welfare will be shown this month, and book a season pass to catch all 10 over the next few months.

Finally, for National Reconciliation Week we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Mabo High Court decision with a complimentary screening of the documentary Mabo: Life of an Island Man (1997). This film follows the extraordinary journey of Eddie Mabo and his efforts to overturn terra nullius and introduce native title into our legal system.

Please help us keep everyone safe by reading and following our COVID-safety and visitor information and don’t forget to get your Club NFSA card when you arrive. See you at the movies!
