NFSA Privacy Collection Notices

These NFSA Privacy Collection Notices are an extension of the NFSA Privacy Policy.

The NFSA collects personal information to perform our functions and powers under the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia Act 2008 (Cth) (NFSA Act). The NFSA collects personal information to perform its functions in the NFSA Act to:

  • develop, preserve, maintain, promote and provide access to a national collection of programs and related material;
  • support and promote the collection by others of programs and related material in Australia;
  • support, promote or engage in:
    • the preservation and maintenance of programs and related material that are not in the national collection;
    • the provision of access to NFSA and NFSA-supported programs; and
    • the provision of access to related material that is not in the national collection.
  • support and promote greater understanding and awareness in Australia of NFSA and NFSA-supported programs;
  • undertake any other function conferred on it by any other law of the Commonwealth; and
  • perform any other activities that is necessary or related to the above.

In order to carry out our services and fulfil our functions as outlined above, the NFSA collects personal information. The type of information that we collect depends on how you interact with us.

Attending an in-person event or screening

We collect personal information from you:

  • When you register for an event online through our ticketing platform or through the organisation we partner with;
  • During check-in or while attending the event; and
  • After the event, if you participate to a voluntary feedback survey.

We may also collect your personal information through our events partners when you register for an event with them and they share your details with us.

  • Provide information about the event and notify you of any changes;

In some instances, we may be required to collect your personal information to comply with legal obligations, including under public health or occupational health and safety laws such as the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

On-site tours and school learning programs

In some cases, photographs, video or audio recordings may be taken during the visit, only where consent has been obtained.

  • Authorised under the institution’s enabling legislation and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) for recordkeeping and reporting on public programs.

  • Details about the items you are offering to donate (ie title or name, subject matter, format, etc.) and their content including whether it contains information on Aboriginal people or Torres Strait Islander people.
