Women Make Film: A New Road Movie Through Cinema carries on from Mark Cousins’ work on The Story of Film: An Odyssey and is a new road trip covering the art and craft of the movies.

Five years in the making, this epic journey through film history is made up of 40 ‘chapters’ narrated by Tilda Swinton, Jane Fonda, Adjoa Andoh, Sharmila Tagore, Kerry Fox, Thandie Newton and Debra Winger.

Cousins employs almost 1,000 film extracts from 13 decades and 5 continents to explore how films are made, shot and edited; how stories are shaped; and how movies depict life, love, politics, humour and death, through the compelling lens of some of the world’s greatest directors – all of them women.

The series is presented monthly in 14 episodes, alongside a selection of the women-directed films that appear in it.
