The Fellowship of the Ring has fractured, and Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) must continue their journey to Mount Doom without their friends. While the appearance of the pitiful and troubled Gollum (Andy Serkis) could be just the assistance they need, it may also end up bringing them closer to disaster.

Meanwhile, as the evil wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee) prepares for war, Aragorn (Viggo Mortenson) attempts to help the people of Rohan defend against an army of Uruk-hai at the battle of Helm’s Deep. It is a final stand that they are unprepared for, but failure will spell doom for Middle-earth.

Deftly managing myriad story threads, The Two Towers seamlessly continues the story from the first film while building towards the trilogy’s epic conclusion. It is a rare middle act of a story that feels essential on its own.

‘Epic battles, spectacular effects and multiple storylines make The Two Towers a most excellent middle chapter in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy’ – USA Today
