Australia’s second ever animated feature film – and the first created for adults – retells the legend of Beowulf from Grendel’s perspective (voiced by Peter Ustinov). We see both sides of the titular monster, who wreaks havoc on the King of Hrothgar but also holds a mirror to the humans who oppose him.
Based on the novel Grendel by John Gardner, the film features beautiful, softly coloured animation design from creator Alexander Stitt, who was inducted into the Australian Graphic Design Association Hall of Fame alongside his former graphic design partner, Bruce Weatherhead, in 2002. Stitt is perhaps most widely known for the ‘Life. Be in it.’ campaign.
