NFSA’s exciting new dementia-friendly film program for cinema-lovers
A Day at the Movies is designed for the enjoyment and comfort of people living with dementia, and their families, friends, carers and companions.
Carers receive a free ticket, courtesy of Carers ACT, and all attendees can enjoy a complimentary Bulla ice cream.
How is this event tailored for people with dementia?

Friendly staff trained by Dementia Australia will be on hand to greet visitors and help throughout the event;

Films selected are in line with dementia-friendly screening guidelines;

Low-level lighting is used for the duration of the screening;

Additional wayfinding and signage;

Reduced sound levels in the cinema;

A designated quiet space for guests to rest or relax;
-
A 10-minute intermission to stretch and refresh;

Pre- and post-screening refreshments are provided in the NFSA garden courtyard, offering guests an opportunity to relax and socialise.
