Throughout her career, Deborah Mailman has had supporting roles in many Australian TV mini-series including Mystery Road, Tomorrow When the War Began, The Alice and Jack Irish, in which she had a recurring role as horse-racing official Cynthia.

In this short excerpt from series 2, episode 2, Cynthia is threatened when someone shoots through her window and into her ceiling while she’s home with her son.

Although it’s a brief scene and a supporting role, Mailman manages to convey the fact that Cynthia is a strong woman who won’t be intimidated, a protective mother and she still has her sense of humour. This brief scene reinforces the nuance and talent that Mailman inserts into every character that she brings to life on screen.
