Marjorie Gillespie walks up from the beach. Accepted by many to be Holt’s lover, Gillespie was one of the last people to see Holt alive and watched as he disappeared under the wave at Cheviot Beach.

Initially, Gillespie’s presence at the scene of the tragedy was not reported by the police. She was rumoured to have been smuggled away in the boot of a car to shield her from the public and the media.
