Queen Elizabeth II watches the race through her binoculars, a close-up of the official party is shown – including Menzies on the right – and then they leave by walking down a path amongst the crowd.
This clip taken from a home movie that was filmed by Australia’s longest serving Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, captures Queen Elizabeth II enjoying one of her favourite pastimes.
The official party is shown but it is the excitement of the crowd that is highlighted in this clip. It illustrates the great adulation Australians had for the monarch in the 1950s.
