Without doubt one of the most notorious Australian films ever made, Turkey Shoot has attracted both wildly positive and negative reactions over the years.
In this clip, Paul Landers (Steve Railsback) and Chris Walters (Olivia Hussey) seize an assault vehicle from their hunters and lead a prison breakout. Government jets are dispatched to Camp 47, with orders to wipe out the facility if order is not restored.
Brian Trenchard-Smith earned his reputation as one of Australia’s best action directors with sequences such as this. His vigorous choreography and inventive shooting style maximise the impact of the prison bust-out. In movie terminology, ‘all the money is up there on the screen’. The use of stock footage – material bought from a film library – adds to the scope and visual excitement as the air force ‘wipeout’ order is given.
