Without doubt one of the most notorious Australian films ever made, Turkey Shoot has attracted both wildly positive and negative reactions over the years.
In this clip, ‘Turkey shoot’ participant Jennifer (Carmen Duncan) shows off her hunting rifle to fellow guest Tito (Michael Petrovich). As government secretary Mallory (Noel Ferrier) watches, prison boss Charles Thatcher (Michael Craig) offers his opinion on the merits of Jennifer’s weapon.
The actors in Turkey Shoot deserve credit for throwing themselves wholeheartedly into scenes such as this. Innuendo and double entendre worthy of a Carry On film dot the discussion of ‘gun size’ and ‘weapon use’ as Thatcher’s guests prepare to hunt humans. Underpinning the humour is the appalling immorality of the power elite in this future world. Thatcher and his cronies have no regard for human life; the ‘turkey shoot’ is a game to be enjoyed as pure recreation.
