In this year of 1961 Conde’s vision for Festival entailed a distinct shift away from the rock ’n’ roll of the 50’s, to smoother Jazz and lounge vocalists that filled the 60’s. Wilma Reading’s honeyed vocals backed by lush strings, chorus and orchestra oozed the glitz and glamour of big bands and nightclubs Conde was looking for.

It was shortly after this single that Reading headed to Tokyo, then on to Vegas where the golden era of show biz was in full swing. As such, this last REX single is an example of Reading at the peak of her career beginnings; having established herself as a bright burgeoning star within Australia’s Jazz circuit; on the cusp of launching from Australia into the international market revolving around the USA and the UK.
