A studio portrait of Winifred Atwell, date unknown.
An accomplished songwriter, musician and performer, Winifred Atwell was also a generous philanthropist. After she moved to Australia, she performed every Sunday on her 'day off' at her local parish church in Narrabeen. When she died in 1983, she left a large part of her estate to the Guide Dogs Association of NSW (as it was then called).
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
