Primatologist Jane Goodall (1934–2025) and her observations of chimpanzee communities changed the way we see animals, our relationship with them, and our own humanity. A gentle and curious soul, her decades-long work in wildlife conservation inspired countless people all around the world.
In this 2007 interview with Andrew Denton on his talk show Enough Rope, Goodall discusses how Jubilee, her childhood toy chimpanzee, inspired her lifelong love of animals; her early field adventures in Africa; the controversies stirred up by her findings; and why she still holds tight to hope.
In this clip, she explains how she can access the peace of the forest, even in the most horrid of situations. The interview ends with Goodall imitating the goodnight calls of contented chimpanzees.
