In this excerpt from Time Warp: 25 Years Of Rocky Horror, producer Christopher Malcolm discusses the humble beginnings of The Rocky Horror Show, having worked with director Jim Sharman, designer Brian Thomson and creator Richard O'Brien on a different theatre show in London.

The core of Rocky Horror, on film and stage, is its soundtrack; it feels alive and interactive in a way musicals rarely do. It seems fitting and very human, then, that the future behemoth was born in less than a month, cooked up in a cramped back room in a London pub by four non-Englishmen giggling and strumming and giving the forks to the oppressive and conservative governments of the time. You can tell that they still don’t quite believe it – as Malcolm says in this clip, the royalty cheques really are that much!

The clip also includes footage of the film's cast performing signature song 'The Time Warp'. Malcolm gives a producer's perspective on why the stage show continues to be a success – its beating heart of great music and a simple story that lies beneath all the theatrical effects and spectacle.
