At the opening of Sydney Festival in January 2010, Ruby Hunter performed ‘Kup Murri’, joined by Archie Roach, Amos Roach, Dave Arden and Irwin Baker.
Before singing, Hunter explained the meaning of a kup murri – a shared cooking practice grounded in Country and community. She spoke plainly, without simplifying ideas or over-directing her young audience.
The performance moved easily between explanation and song. The clip stands as a reminder of how children’s programming can carry cultural knowledge with warmth, clarity and confidence.
