The iconic documentary series Bill Peach’s Australia took viewers on a tour of the nation’s most breathtaking landscapes – all from the comfort of their living rooms. With this cassette tape edition, they could even take Peach with them on the road. The cassette and corresponding transparency slides featured Peach's commentary on 10 different attractions, including the Sydney Opera House, Mount Kosciuszko and the Murray River. Having a cassette version of his series shows the deep cultural impact Peach had on Australia in the 1970s. Already a household name as the host of This Day Tonight, ABC’s first nightly current affairs program, Peach was the perfect guide for a travelogue-meets-history series. His warm, approachable style, journalistic integrity and passion for the country helped make the series a hit and inspired a generation of ‘grey nomads’ to explore their own backyard.
