See comical versions of then-Prime Minister Bob Hawke, Treasurer Paul Keating and more in these opening credits for Rubbery Figures, a popular satirical puppet series that aired on ABC in Australia from 1984 to 1990. It debuted the same year as the caricature puppet show Spitting Image in the UK. Rubbery Figures featured exaggerated rubber caricatures of prominent political and public figures created by Australian cartoonist Peter Nicholson. The puppets expanded their audience further when they appeared in the high-rating commercial comedy series, Fast Forward (1989–1992). The Rubbery Figures opening credits set the tone for the show. Alongside the puppets, there is a Monty Python-esque quality thanks to the cut-out animation style, while the bassoon is the perfect instrument to capture the program's irreverent and playful take on Australian politics. The series also provides a comedic window into the politics of the late '80s and how Australians responded to it.
