This ticket would have been much sought-after in 2001; now it is a cherished relic from the iconic but defunct Australian music festival, Big Day Out (1994–2014). Closer to a cultural rite of passage than a music event, the always sweltering summer festival brought major international acts like Nirvana, Aphex Twin, Hole and Carl Cox to Australia and Aotearoa (NZ), to play alongside homegrown talent like B(if)tek and the Vines. The stylish design and memorable graphic makes the ticket an attractive memento of an earlier era.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
