This Prestwich 'Model 4' 35mm camera is one of the first professional moving picture cameras. It is also among the oldest cameras in the NFSA collection. The Prestwich was the first camera to feature detachable external film magazines and a removable lens panel. Pioneering Australian cinematographer Frank Hurley is thought to have used a Prestwich to capture historic footage during Sir Douglas Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition in 1911–14.
