Marketed as a machine of ‘beauty, quality, performance and low price’, this Mansfield Holiday II camera capitalised on the popularity of holidays as appropriate subject matter for amateur filmmakers. It features three lenses (normal, telephoto and wide angle) to help capture a variety of situations.
This camera is noteworthy for using ‘double 8mm’ film stock, which is the size of 16mm film. When filming, only one side of the film (8mm) was initially exposed. The operator would then flip the film and use the remaining unexposed 8mm strip down the other side. When it was processed, the film was split down the middle and spliced together, ready for viewing.
