An early toy projector for kids, the Alpha-Kine projected 16mm acetate (safety) film. Other models used 35mm nitrate – a highly flammable stock. No wonder parents were strongly urged to destroy them! Dangerous projectors came under review in 1953 by the National Safety Council of Australia. The council secretary, Mr RS Forbes, warned that ‘with the use of an electric light globe or a candle there are all the ingredients for a serious fire hazard’.
