‘What’s that Skip?’ Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (1966–69) was Australia’s most beloved family television series – so much so, it had its own line of merchandising that included this promotional melamine plate and mug from 1969. You can imagine that some of the 67,000 children who joined the Skippy Club enjoyed their toast and Milo in branded vessels like these, making Skippy a part of their meals as well as their TV time. Filmed in and around Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park near Sydney, the series followed the adventures of Sonny (Garry Pankhurst) and a highly intelligent Eastern Grey Kangaroo named Skippy in the fictional Waratah National Park.
