Polish poster for Caddie

A feature film's poster is an important marketing tool and conveys to audiences just why they should see a movie, whether it's because of a gripping, high-stakes plot, famous cast, or something else that makes it particularly interesting. Each poster is unique to the film, and even then, posters can also be made to target a specific country. This film poster for Caddie (1976) shows how this Australian feature was marketed to a Polish audience. In it, the still-life composition of an animal carcass and a chipped dinner plate by Polish artist Jerzy Flisak could easily be mistaken for a Sidney Nolan painting rather than a film poster. Flisak was known for his satirical illustrations, and his artwork expertly captures the harsh realities of the Great Depression during which Caddie is set.
