Pilita Corrales (1937–2025) sings 'September Song' on episode 18 of The Bobby Limb Show in 1960. Following her performance, she is joined on stage by illusionist and actor John Calvert, who performs a magic routine with lit cigarettes.
Although she arrived in Australia in 1959 as Calvert's sidekick, Corrales soon found fame on her own terms as a popular singer. Her single ‘Come Closer to Me’ was a hit in 1959, making Corrales one of the first women to make the Australian pop charts with a locally produced record.
Corrales recorded at least three LPs in Australia and became an early television star before returning to the Philippines in 1963. There, she starred in many films and on television, recorded more than 135 albums and appeared as a judge on the Philippines edition of The X Factor.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
