From episode 19 of the children’s TV show Stax (1979), a little girl from Melbourne’s Chinese community explains what happens during New Year’s celebrations.
We see the procession of the lion dancers, accompanied by musicians, flower girls and firecrackers, as the ‘lion’ receives offerings from the shops and restaurants.
This clip also features a precious glimpse of Little Bourke Street on the eve of the 1980s.
