Alan William 'Llew' Llewellyn presents a short history of the area that he grew up and lived in, the Whipstick area of Bendigo, Victoria.
He shows us the school he went to, originally known as Sailors Gully School (now Eaglehawk North Primary School); talks about local flora and fauna; names the surrounding hills and their significance; discusses the history of gold digging and alluvial mining and some of the larger nuggets discovered in the area; and takes us to the 'old red hut' built by two German gold-digging brothers.
This footage was recorded in 1978 using an early Sony Portapak portable video recorder.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
