Sweet As (2022) is the feature debut of First Nations filmmaker Jub Clerc. Filmed on Country in the Pilbara, it is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story about a 16-year-old girl, Murra (Shantae Barnes-Cowan), who is facing tensions at home and the lifeline she's given in the form of a photo-safari for 'at-risk' teens.
In this scene Mitch (Tasma Walton) speaks to the ancestors and asks them for safe passage for herself and the teens. The scene shows how Murra is learning more about her culture and identity as a young First Nations person.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
