Program special narrated by Brian Henderson and produced using the libraries of TCN9 and GTV9 to mark ten years of telecasting in Sydney and Melbourne.
This clip from the special was taken from a 1962 episode of The Bob Rogers Show and features a memorable moment during an advertisement for Hecla frying pans where everything went wrong!
Bob Rogers (1926–2024) was Australia's longest-serving radio announcer. He worked as a DJ for 76 years from 1944 to 2020 – a remarkable achievement – notably on 2UE, 2SM, 2GB and 2CH in Sydney.
Bob was involved in many important moments in the history of Australian radio, from the start of Top 40 radio in the 1950s to joining the Beatles' only Australian tour in 1964, for which he was nicknamed 'the fifth Beatle'.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
