In this excerpt from 3UZ’s live broadcast of the Beatles’ arrival in Melbourne on 14 June 1964, presenters Don Lunn, Leslie Heil, Stuart Jay and John Vertigan describe chaotic scenes as the 'Fab Four’ travelled from Essendon Airport to the Southern Cross Hotel, greeted by an estimated 250,000 people.
The commentary authentically conveys the enormous excitement generated by their arrival, at the height of ‘Beatlemania’. John Lennon would later remark that The Beatles’ arrival in Melbourne was ‘the greatest reception we have received anywhere in the world’.
