The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia’s (NFSA) Vinyl Lounge - Canberra’s monthly celebration of analogue music - will make its online debut, spinning records live on Friday 1 May.

Virtual Vinyl Lounge is the first event in the new NFSA Live suite of online programs. While our doors are temporarily closed to the public, the NFSA is always open online! With hundreds of hours of content from our collection available on our website and social media channels, we are also sharing our collection with audiences via special online events.

NFSA Curator and Vinyl Lounge MC Thorsten Kaeding said: ‘The rumours are true; Vinyl Lounge is going virtual! You may not be able to come to Vinyl Lounge at the NFSA in Canberra, but that’s ok because we’re coming to you.

‘Look through our record collection, select the track you want to listen to, send us a short video telling us what you love about it, and we’ll play it for you at Virtual Vinyl Lounge. From funk to folk, pop to prog, there’s something for everyone. Join us live to listen to and talk about your favourite music.’

Since 2013 the NFSA has hosted the Vinyl Lounge on the first Friday of the month - a space for music lovers to come together and play songs from their favourite records on our awesome sound system. Vinyl Loungers choose a song to share with the group and present a short introduction about what that song means to them.

In this new virtual edition your host Thorsten Kaeding will take you on a musical journey using his personal set up at home. We will also have (socially distanced!) audience participation, with some of our regulars submitting their video request for this first ever Virtual Vinyl Lounge live stream.

So join us online on Friday 1 May for a curated hour of analogue music, and stay tuned for your opportunity to submit a song for the next Virtual Vinyl Lounge! Audiences can register online to be reminded before we go live.

Further NFSA Live events will be announced in the coming weeks.
