Leading American breaking and hip-hop group Rock Steady Crew toured Australia in 1984, bringing the dance subculture of the Bronx and Manhattan with them.

This clip from Eyewitness News during their tour offers an introduction to the individual members and the dance craze sweeping through Australian youth. Footage shows the Crew demonstrating their breakdancing moves, while co-founder 'Crazy Legs' gives an on-camera interview to provide tips on warming up and avoiding injury. Reflecting the relative newness of mainstream representations of breaking, the newsreaders hold back laughter after the report. All the members of the Crew were teenagers at the time, and their relative youth is contrasted with their high earnings and growing global stature.

One year earlier, the group's song '(Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew', from their first studio album Ready for Battle, was an international hit. Formed in 1977 in New York City, the group has since evolved into an international franchise with an evolving line-up of members. They were a pioneer of b-boy and b-girl subculture and built international interest in hip hop through their dancing and appearances in films such as Flashdance (1983) and Beat Street (1984).
