This excerpt from a 2006 Channel V Schoolies beach party captures the energy, excitement and optimism of the young crowd – teenagers who had just finished high school and were partying on the Gold Coast for ‘Schoolies Week’.

Filmed live, host Yumi Stynes – the podcaster and author who began her career as a Channel V presenter – brings out iconic Aussie hip-hop group Hilltop Hoods to perform their hit ‘Nosebleed Section’. The footage cuts between drone shots of the crowd, the audience chanting, and Hilltop Hoods playfully performing in their classic larrikin style.

Hyping up the crowd of school leavers, MC Suffa tells them that one day they will be ‘like 50 [years old] with kids this age and you’re going to look back … and go, damn that was a good day’. Two decades on, his prediction could now be a reality for many in the crowd.
