This excerpt comes from Rain (2003), an experimental video artwork by Khaled Sabsabi. The piece pairs stark footage of barbed wire with an insistent, enveloping soundscape, using its pared‑back imagery to probe themes of movement, boundaries and contested geographies. Presented as a single‑channel standard‑definition video with audio, Rain shows Sabsabi’s ability to turn minimal elements into a dense, atmospheric experience.

Born in Lebanon in 1965 and settling in Western Sydney in 1978, Sabsabi began his creative life in the late‑1980s hip hop scene before expanding into sound production, filmmaking and experimental audiovisual practice. Today, he is recognised nationally and internationally for work spanning sound, film and video art. The NFSA holds one of the most substantial collections of Sabsabi’s work, from his early music recordings to his later experimental video and sound pieces.
