Over the years, many music videos have been filmed in Prague, but few are as iconic as this INXS video from 1988 for 'Never Tear Us Apart'. It had a huge cultural impact, winning the ARIA Award for Best Music Video in 1989. The clip showcased the haunting beauty of the then-communist city of Prague to a global MTV audience, featuring sweeping views of landmarks like Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the Old Jewish Cemetery. Director Richard Lowenstein chose the location for its untouched, pre-capitalist charm – free of modern signage and commercial clutter. The gothic architecture and timeless streets gave the video a distinct visual identity, and the moody, wintry visuals suit the sombre musical feel of the power ballad. The shoot faced logistical challenges, including importing a Steadicam, crane and crew from Munich due to the lack of such equipment and expertise in the Eastern Bloc. The production also worked through a state-approved local company to manage permissions and coordination. The fourth single from the album Kick (1987), 'Never Tear Us Apart' was a worldwide hit in mid-1988.
