One of Australia’s most successful music exports, INXS scored their biggest worldwide hit with their sixth studio album, Kick (1987). It reportedly sold over 20 million copies and included four singles that cracked the Top 10 in America – ‘New Sensation’, ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, ‘Devil Inside’ and ‘Need You Tonight’, the last of which hit the top spot on the US Billboard Charts.

Kick’s brooding mix of funk and rock was the perfect showcase for singer Michael Hutchence’s feline sensuality, which was a not inconsiderable contributor to the band’s popularity.

INXS were also known for their stylish and beautifully produced video clips, often directed by in-demand Australian filmmaker Richard Lowenstein. Three of the clips shot for Kick were filmed in Prague, including the clip for waltz-tempo ballad ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, which remains a fan favourite. In 1986, Lowenstein cast Hutchence in the lead role of his feature film Dogs in Space.
