Part of the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit's instructional series on driving, this 11th instalment focuses on driving at night.

Reflecting the simple format of these educational titles, the clip shows film footage of a man driving down a dark road while a narrator eloquently explains dangers to look out for and headlight etiquette, including when to dip your lights and how to avoid being dazzled. In contrast to contemporary driving videos, there are few visual aids or demonstrations – most of the footage is atmospheric, with POV shots that put the viewer in the mindset of a night driver.

Clear instruction is rooted in the narration, which provides several examples and breaks down the guidelines for ease of understanding and memorisation. Looking back at the narrator's poetic phrasing, viewers can get a sense of how public communication has evolved, and how audiovisual innovations have shifted the format of clips with similar aims.
