Risk follows WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange over several years, filmed by writer‑director Laura Poitras. The documentary focuses on motives and contradictions of Assange’s decision to publish sensitive United States military and diplomatic documents leaked by whistleblower Chelsea Manning.
Moving beyond simple portraiture, the film captures shifting alliances, internal tensions and the cost of radical transparency. As Assange’s political influence grows so does the legal and ethical controversy surrounding him.
Poitras’s unprecedented access draws viewers into a knotty and compelling moral and political dilemma.
‘A documentary brave enough to let uncertainty remain unresolved.’ - Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
